Andy McCabe drove the new DS3 Cabrio

The new DS3 Cabriolet “What fun” the sporty yet cute looks makes you want to get behind the wheel and enjoy the drive which you can only do in this little car. The road holding reminds me of the 1980’s classic the Peugeot 205 Gti, the DS3 likes to nip around town but can still hold its own on the open road.

The interior is spacious, stylish and well laid out, the seating is firm, supportive and extremely comfortable, At the touch of a button which is positioned in the roof console the roof folds back quickly and smoothly to three sequential positions, intermediate, horizontal and fully opened which only takes a maximum of 16 seconds. The roof can be opened whilst the car is travelling up to a maximum speed of 74 mph. Once opened, the “tin can” design of the roof means there’s less buffeting than a conventional cabriolet, but at the expense of that full “wind in your hair” drop-top experience.

The new DS3 cabriolet is based on the same technical and design platform as its sister counterpart DS3 which won the Top Gear car of the year 2010, and weighs just 21kg more. This allows the Cabrio to achieve MPG very similar to the regular hatchback, and I found the official figure of 47.9 to be achievable in normal driving. Like all DS3s the cabriolet comes in varied colour combinations allowing you to stand out from the crowd and be an individual. At £17430 for what’s quite a good standard spec, this looks attractive compared to its obvious competitor the Mini Convertible.

Key Facts:
  • OTR: £17430.00
  • CO2: 136 g/km
  • Economy: 47.9 mpg (Combined)
  • 0-62 mph: 9.9s
